How To Receive Your Upgrade In A Negative Circumstance
I called in Monday morning for a meeting with my boss to find out my job was terminated on the spot.
When I got this job a year ago it was such a gift. It was a work from home job which suited me. It allowed me to use my skills working from home which gave me a great amount of freedom.
Now I was let go suddenly. I could have cried…okay I did…initially.
Until I realized this was actually an upgrade.
Now in case you are thinking, she’s must be exaggerating, no one feels like that when they are fired.
The only way I could have felt like that is if someone or something had of prepared me ahead of time and encouraged me after!
I got this job after looking for a year and a half for something that would give me room to grow and use my skills in a way more suited to the lifestyle I wanted.
I had been working for other people’s companies and organizations and serving in my local church for 17 years. In that time I learned a lot about myself.
I learned that I loved building, creating things (not LEGO- I actually can’t build LEGO at all) I mean build structures to serve and empower people. I really enjoy helping people uncover their abilities and potential. And I didn’t want to work for someone else!
The week before I got fired I had been listening to messages by a speaker; Graham Cooke who was teaching that in every negative circumstance God wants to show you who He is for you. He has an upgrade for you!
When I got off the phone after being fired my amazingly supportive husband immediately said: “you’re free”. The week after things kept happening that confirmed this was going to be ok.
A local radio show had the call in question: “have you ever been fired and secretly did a happy dance?”. I called in and actually got on the show and shared that I felt excited about the potential opportunities ahead. Other friends said: “congratulations” when I told them. That’s not usually how people respond to this kind of news.
When you are going through circumstances that are less than favourable take time to listen to your life. What have you been hearing, even if it has been more in your subconscious. Is this a potential upgrade? An opportunity for something new and fresh? Something more in line with who you are today?
Romans 8:28 says that God works all things together for (as a plan) for those who love God.
Now, knowing this doesn’t solve the immediate issues of finances when the severance runs out. I am not suggesting you just sit back and do nothing and trust God until a job lands in your lap.
Work hard. Read books that help you move forward. Get advice. Find out what’s best for you in your particular situation. But whatever it is. It can be an upgrade if you take time to listen, seek wisdom and most importantly listen to Gods heart in it all. Be encouraged!!
How to receive your upgrade:
- Take time to journal what’s happening in your life. Then when you look back you can see how You have been prepared all along. It will make things clearer.
- Create a life rhythm of silence, solitude and action. In her book; Strengthening The Soul Of a Leader, Ruth Haley Barton says: “ we are able to notice our inner dynamics and make choices that are grounded in love, trust and God-given wisdom” when we spend time in silence and solitude regularly. We can hear better and walk with peace in any situation without making quick decisions that cause chaos.
- Ask God to be the One who will lead and walk with you in this life and to show you His plans for your life. Then trust that He is leading. He is so good and wants only good for you. Psalm 119:105 says: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Enjoy your upgrades!!!
